Step-by-Step Guide to Measuring Your Breast Shape

There are several shapes including round, teardrop, asymmetrical and east-west… Here’s how to know which one yours is:

  1. Start by standing in front of a mirror without clothing from waist up. If comfortable keep wearing the bra if not remove it so breasts can be relaxed naturally.
  1. Look at their fullness; Are they fuller on top, bottom or both? If they’re fuller above nipple their “full-on-top”, if they’re below then they are “full-on-bottom” or “balanced” if evenly distributed.

  1. Notice their width; How far do they extend towards your armpits? A little means “narrow-rooted” alot means “wide-rooted”.
  2. Determine their projection; Do they stick out more or are just spread over chest? Sticking out more makes them “projected” while spreading them out makes them “shallow”.
  3. Check if breasts touch each other, yes = “close-set”. No = “wide-set”.
  4. Notice the orientation of your nipples; Do they face forward or slightly to the sides?

Some common breast shapes

There are several common breast shapes, including:

  1. Round: If your breasts are full and equally proportioned on the top and bottom, you likely have a round breast shape.
  2. Teardrop: If your breasts are fuller on the bottom and taper off toward the top, resembling a teardrop, you likely have a teardrop breast shape.
  3. East West: If your nipples point outward rather than forward, you likely have an East West breast shape.
  4. Side Set: If your breasts are spaced farther apart on your chest, you likely have a side-set breast shape.
  5. Asymmetric: If one breast is noticeably larger or a different shape than the other, you have an asymmetric breast shape.
  6. Bell Shape: If your breasts are slimmer at the top and fuller at the bottom, you likely have a bell-shaped breast shape.
  7. Athletic: If your breasts are more muscular and less fatty, you likely have an athletic breast shape.

Important Factors for Determining Bra Shape

  1. Correct Size: The wrong bra can make your boobs look differently shaped. Make sure you’re wearing the right size before trying to figure out what shape they are.
  2. Change in Weight: Gaining or losing a lot of weight can change the size and shape of your breasts. Measure them again after any major changes to avoid confusion.
  3. Aging: As we all get older our skin gets saggier and our boobs start to droop. This may change their shape a little bit, so keep that in mind when evaluating them.
  4. Post-Pregnancy: Breastfeeding can cause a lot of physical changes to the female body. Make sure you’ve reassessed their shape post-baby if you want an accurate reading.
